WINNIPEG – The strange tale that is the Barrin Simpson saga has taken another twist – the veteran linebacker is back on the practice field this morning for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Simpson has been persona non grata in Bomberland since dressing in the Labour Day loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders but then balking at a reduced role in the defence. He was subsequently placed on the one-game injured list, moved to the nine-game injured list, fought that move – as he didn’t sign a consent form – and won a grievance with the CFL and then was told not to report to the club’s offices as he was deemed a distraction and a negative influence.

His return also comes just a day after Bomber head coach Mike Kelly told reporters Simpson was not on his radar screen.

“Barrin Simpson isn’t really in my mindset right now. I’m more worried about the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and that’s where I’d like to stay focussed,” Kelly said Tuesday…. The only time I think about that name is when you guys (media) bring it up. Otherwise, it’s out of my thought process.”

Simpson is working with the No. 1 defensive unit with Joe Lobendahn apparently still hurting from an injury he suffered in last Friday’s win over the Edmonton Eskimos.

Also of note, slotback Terrence Edwards is back on the field practising. He missed the last two games with a concussion.
