A few things to chew on heading into what promises to be a spirited affair at Canad Inns Stadium this afternoon/early evening…
- Your healthy scratches for the Bombers are WR Chris Davis, RB Yvenson Bernard, OL Chris Greaves and LB Courtney Smith. Smith is a bit of a surprise, given how he’s been rotating in and out with Marcellus Bowman in the weak-side spot. Look for Derrick Doggett to possibly get more of an opportunity on defence.
- If RB Fred Reid doesn’t tear it up today, will the team consider Bernard in the tailback spot against Calgary? That could be a interesting storyline next week.
- Getting back to the linebackers, here’s what Joe Lobendahn had to say about the lingering stench on the Hamilton game. Doesn’t sound like he’s dwelling on it: “What happened last week…we lost. Period. Hamilton beat us. We can’t look back and say we should have done this, or we should’ve done that. That’s over. Edmonton is what we have to worry about.”
- The Eskies are in the road whites with the green pants. Winnipeg is going blue (jerseys) and gold (pants). I’m wearing a red hat.
- Edmonton QB Ricky Ray scares me if I’m on the Bomber side. One touchdown pass in three games is not his usual feast on opposing defences. Everything – from the urgency on the Double-E side to his reputation as a top pivot in the CFL – points to him hanging a crooked number on the Winnipeg secondary today.
- Finally, the media meal in the press box is smokies and salad.
