WINNIPEG — This time, it’s Jovon Johnson’s turn.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers kick returner was named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Special Teams Player of the Week this morning. Johnson earned the honour with an 83-yard punt-return touchdown late in the fourth quarter that helped the Bombers crush the visiting Edmonton Eskimos 47-21 Saturday.

This is the third time in four weeks a Bomber has won the weekly league mention. In Week 1, linebacker Joe Lobendahn won the defensive player honour; Week 2 saw quarterback Buck Pierce claim the offensive player honours.

It is the fourth time Johnson has been recognized for his play-returning kicks. Last year, the all-star defensive back claimed the special teams award in weeks 14, 15 and 17.

The Bombers are on the practice field this morning — without Pierce (he’s still just a spectator). The club next sees action Saturday, when they travel to Calgary to take on the Stampeders.
