One one of the safest NDP seats in Canada remains orange for another term, as Pat Martin has won his sixth straight victory in Winnipeg Centre.

The outspoken New Democrat defeated his nearest competitor,Conservative Benv Pitura. In the 2008 general election, Martin won Winnipeg Centre by 6,848 votes.

At press time, Martin had yet to appear at his campaign party at the Ukrainian Labour Temple.

Martin was first elected in 1997, when he defeated Liberal David Walker. He also won in 2000, 2004, 2006 and 2008.

As one of the more experienced NDP MPs, Martin is expected to play a significant role in the official opposition.

Also running in Winnipeg Centre were Green candidate Jaqueline Romanow and Communist Darrell Rankin, who finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
