Premier Greg Selinger said Wednesday a re-elected NDP government would pass a law freezing university tuition fees to the rate of inflation.

At a campaign stop at the University of Manitoba, Selinger also promised to expand eligibility for student aid to make education more affordable.

He said improvements to the Manitoba Student Aid program would allow students to own vehicles and earn income during the school year without affecting their eligibility. The NDP would also reduce the interest rate on Manitoba student loans to the prime borrowing rate.
