COLUMBUS — Chris Mason will get the start in goal for the Winnipeg Jets tonight when the new version of the team plays its first exhibition game at Nationwide Arena.

Puck drop will be just after 6 p.m. CT and will give fans their first-ever look at the Jets in their new uniforms.

Game time for the other half of the split-squad day between Columbus and Winnipeg is 7:30 p.m. CT at the MTS Centre.

After Mason plays two periods here tonight, Peter Mannino is expected to play the third period.

The Jets will be directed here tonight by St. John’s IceCaps head coach Keith McCambridge, who was Jets head coach Claude Noel’s assistant with the Manitoba Moose last season.

McCambridge, after putting his team through a 30-minute morning skate here this morning, said the occasion wasn’t lost on his group today.

“It’s been a series of steps,” McCambridge said. “The first time on the ice for the main guys at camp was exciting. Now this, getting on that plane yesterday to come here to Columbus, the excitement was building that we’re getting that much closer to stepping on the ice here tonight.

“It is exhibition, but we’re going to see the jerseys tonight for the first time in the pre-game skate. Time-wise, it works out we’re first on the ice and these are all steps towards the building excitement over the team and I have no doubt it’s going to get stronger for this game. We’re proud to be the first ones out.”

The Jets lineup here tonight includes Mason and Mannino, as well as defencemen Ron Hainsey, Mark Flood, Derek Meech, Zach Redmond, Travis Ramsey and Julian Melchiori; and forwards Evander Kane, Tim Stapleton, Tanner Glass, Jim Slater, Chris Thorburn, Blake Wheeler, Kenndal McArdle, Jason Jaffray, Riley Holzapfel, Spencer Machacek, Carl Klingberg and John Albert.
