Liberal Leader Jon Gerrard released the second leg of his party’s platform today with less than two weeks left before Manitobans decide who will be the next premier.

Much of it has already been released by Liberal Leader Jon Gerrard over the past three weeks.

Gerrard used the occasion to increase the election hopes of Burrows Liberal candidate Twyla Motkaluk, hosting the announcement at her campaign headquarters.

Highlights of the Liberal platform include:

-More resources to prevent Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder;

-Expanding the Winnipeg police cadet corps;

-More truancy officers to keep kids in school;

-Increasing access for urgent care adjacent to ER facilities for shorter hospital wait times;

-More rapid transit lines across Winnipeg.

The Liberals aren’t predicting they’ll form the next government, but that they’ll win enough seats – between four and nine – to hold the balance of power in the Manitoba’s legislative assembly.

Gerrard has said whatever party wins, the NDP or the Progressive Conservatives, they won’t grab enough seats to form a majority government, That will give the edge to the Liberals as they’ll be wooed by a minority government and get more of their ideas accepted.

This election the Liberals are focused on not only getting Gerrard elected in River Heights, but also picking up seats in Tyndall Park, Fort Rouge, St. Norbert, St. James and Logan.

Observers say that’s a tall order as the Liberals have seen their popularity drop in recent polls, squeezed out by almost-equal support for the PCs and NDP.
