Manitoba Liberals say all Manitoba communities should be connected to broadband Internet by 2015.

Liberal Leader Jon Gerrard made the pitch to the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce Tuesday.

He said under the Liberal plan, $1.9 million would be devoted to the project in the first year.

Larger communities without access to highspeed Internet would be the first priority.

Gerrard said the province, under the NDP, has done too little to help Manitoba participate in the global economy.

“Liberals believe that all Manitoba communities deserve to be competitive, and access to broadband Internet everywhere is crucial to the economic success of communities and the education of young people everywhere,” he said in a release.

A Liberal spokesman could not immediately say how many Manitobans lack access to highspeed Internet or how much the entire project would cost.
