In a rare move for a quarterback, Winnipeg Blue Bombers pivot Buck Pierce has managed to go offside.

On Sunday, Pierce told reporters he’s part of a group that has purchased Hu’s Asian Bistro on Ellice Avenue and will reopen the Ellice Avenue restaurant as a southern barbecue and sports bar. As it turns out, the QB crossed the line of scrimmage a little early.

The restaurant’s current owner – Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz – said the deal has yet to close.

“Buck Pierce is part of the group, but nothing is sold yet,” Katz said Monday. “In three weeks, he may be right.”

Pierce spoke about the new venture only reluctantly. “I’d rather just stick to football right now,” the quarterback told football reporters, but revealed it will be called Danny’s Southern Smokehouse BBQ.

“We’ll have Goldeyes, Bombers, Jets (memorabilia), just a good sports bar for everybody,” said Pierce.
