KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia - A Polish team spokesman says cross-country skier Justyna Kowalczyk has a "very small" fracture in her injured left foot but will continue competing at the Sochi Olympics.

KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia – A Polish team spokesman says cross-country skier Justyna Kowalczyk has a “very small” fracture in her injured left foot but will continue competing at the Sochi Olympics.

Kowalczyk, a gold medallist from the 2010 Vancouver Games and a four-time overall World Cup champion, injured her foot in January but raced in the women’s 15-kilometre skiathlon on Saturday, where she finished sixth. She posted a picture of an X-ray of her foot on her Facebook page on Sunday showing the fracture.

Team spokesman Henryk Urbas says the injury is “not so serious” and that “our treatment will help her be ready for the start” of the 10K classical style race on Thursday — probably Kowalczyk’s best chance at a gold.
