The St. Vital Curling Club will be rocking on Thursday morning.
The club will open its doors at 6:30 a.m. and will have a pair of big-screen TVs on as the St. Vital club’s own Jennifer Jones and her Canadian crew take on Sweden in the Olympic gold-medal game in women’s curling.
Jones battles Sweden’s Margaretha Sigfridsson in the final, which starts at 7:30 a.m.
Admission is free. The club is located at the corner of St. Anne’s Road and Regal Avenue (next to the Superstore).
Club president Duane Budnick said this morning the club’s kitchen will be open right at 6:30 a.m., and the bar will open at 9 a.m.
“We have two big TVs and a member of the club has volunteered to set up to large projection screens for viewing,” he said in an email. “We do have limited space so it may get crowded (Thursday) morning.”
The entire team has Manitoba roots. Jones was born in Winnipeg, as were second Jill Officer and third Kaitlyn Lawes. Lead Dawn McEwen moved to Winnipeg to join the team and has settled in the city with husband and World Curling Tour regular Mike McEwen.
At worst, Jones will settle for a silver medal.
Jones went 9-0 in round robin play to become the first women’s team to go through unbeaten. She’s now 10-0 heading to the final.
