The Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival is on a record attendance pace through the first weekend of performances.

The 27th annual fringe-athon has registered 50 sellouts, and on Saturday set a new one-day high of 10,714 tickets sold. Five days into the 12-day event, sales stand at 40,054 tickets. That’s up 697 tickets from last year when overall indoor record attendance reached 101,488.

“The crowds have been phenomenal and the weather has been perfect for fringing,” said fest executive producer Chuck McEwen. “We still have plenty of seats to fill and we encourage all Winnipeggers, especially those who have never been before, to come and experience great entertainment and theatre.”
