There are further concerns about more package bombs in the mail system like the one that targeted and severely injured city lawyer Maria Mitousis last Friday — but not in Winnipeg.

“Everything has been cleared out of Winnipeg,” Glenn Bennett, the president of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers Winnipeg Local 856, told the Free Press Wednesday.

Winnipeg police have charged a man with sending explosive devices to law firms and other businesses in the city, and have warned that more packages may be discovered in the coming days. Guido Amsel, 49, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, one count of aggravated assault and a number of offences related to possessing explosives.

Bennett said police are concerned about addresses in Alberta and Germany, where Amsel’s ex-wife — believed to be one of the targets of the explosive devices — has family.

“They’re just looking at them as possibilities,” Bennett added. “They’re just addresses of concern.”

RCMP said they couldn’t confirm the report. Winnipeg police indicated by email that they would not be providing further details, “however appropriate notifications have been made based on our on-going investigation.”
