Winnipeg’s Nicole Sifuentes advanced to the women’s 1500-metre after a preliminary heat on Friday night at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Sifuentes ran a seventh-place time of 4:07:43 in the third and final Round 1 heat to qualify for Sunday’s semis.

The 30-year-old made it to the semifinals in 2012 in London.

Sifuentes was a silver medalist at the 2015 Pan Am Games in the 1500. Her personal best time in the 1500 is 4:03.97 set back in June at a meet in South Carolina.
