CALGARY - This Calgary riding is one to watch as the Liberals have pegged it as a potential win, with leader Justin Trudeau visiting his party's candidate during week one of the campaign. Calgary Skyview came into effect in 2015 following distribution in 2012. It was created after Calgary Northwest, an electoral district that voted Conservative for decades.

Calgary Skyview came into effect in 2015 following distribution in 2012. It was created after Calgary Northwest, an electoral district that voted Conservative for decades.

Population: 135,730 (Elections Canada)

Major Communities: Falconridge, Martindale, Saddle Ridge, Taradale and Whitehorn

Incumbent: Conservative Jagdeep Sahota won the seat in 2019 and is seeking re-election.

Main challengers: Liberal candidate George Chahal, a Calgary city councillor; NDP candidate Gurinder Singh Gill, a community organizer; and People’s Party of Canada candidate Harry Dhillon.

Election history: Liberal Darshan Kang captured the northeast Calgary riding in 2015, turning a Conservative stronghold red for the first time in decades with about 46 per cent of the vote. Kang later sat as an Independent after resigning from the party amid a sexual harassment scandal. Conservative Jagdeep Sahota won the riding back in 2019 with more than 50 per cent of the vote.

Fun Fact: The 2011 Census shows Calgary Skyview is a racially diverse riding with more than 50 per cent of its population identifying as South Asian, Filipino or Black.
