Some of the highlights of Monday night’s federal election results

OTTAWA – Highlights of the federal election results:

— Mark Carney’s Liberals will form government, though it’s not yet clear whether it will be a minority or majority.

— The Liberals are poised to take the majority of seats in Atlantic Canada, Quebec and Ontario.

— The Conservatives are dominating on the Prairies and the Liberals and Tories are battling for the lead in British Columbia.

— Carney has won his Ottawa riding, securing the prime minister a seat in Parliament.

— It is not clear whether Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre will win his own riding, which neighbours Carney’s. He is trailing, though the race is too close to call. Poilievre told supporters he would continue to fight on their behalf.

— NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh conceded defeat in his riding and said he would step down as party leader.

— NDP candidates are leading or elected in seven ridings, short of the 12 seats needed for official party status.

— The Green party’s Elizabeth May was re-elected in B.C., though her co-leader Jonathan Pedneault failed to break through in his Quebec riding.
