Liberal Leader Jon Gerrard hinted Tuesday evening that he may not be leader for long.

The Liberals defied predictions of electoral obliteration, managing to hold on to Gerrard’s River Heights seat Tuesday despite a serious challenge by the Tories.

But the party failed to pick up even Tyndall Park, a Grit-friendly riding, and the party’s share of the popular vote dropped to seven per cent, down from 12 per cent in 2007.

That will raise questions about Gerrard’s fate as leader, questions he deferred to a later date.

“This is a night to celebrate,” said Gerrard. “There will be plenty of time to discuss that in the days ahead.”

But he hinted that he may serve as MLA for River Heights, just not as the party’s leader.

“I’m not going to talk about my future tonight except to say I am committed to serving the people of River Heights for four more years,” he said.
