We’re monitoring the polls, so you don’t have to. Once a week until election day, the Free Press will update its readers on the current poll results. This week, we are looking at recent polls from Nanos, Ekos and Ipsos.
- Nanos: According to its three-day tracking ending Oct. 5, Conservative Leader Stephen Harper and Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau remain deadlocked in respondents’ preference for prime minster; 31.7 per cent would vote for Harper, and 30.6 per cent would choose Trudeau. NDP Leader Tom Mulcair trails, with 19 per cent choosing him as their preferred prime minister. Meanwhile, 5.1 per cent prefer Green party Leader Elizabeth May and 2.5 per cent prefer Bloc Québécois Leader Gilles Duceppe; 11 per cent are undecided.
- Last week: Harper was at 30.3 per cent, Trudeau at 27 per cent, Mulcair at 26.1 per cent, May at 6.1 per cent, Duceppe at 1.5 per cent and nine per cent were undecided.
- Margin of error: The margin of error for a survey of 1,200 people is plus or minus 2.8 per cent, 19 times out of 20.
- Ipsos: Polling conducted from Oct. 2 to 5, shows the Grits and Tories in a dead heat. If the election were held tomorrow, 33 per cent of voters would vote for the Conservative party and Harper; 32 per cent would vote for the Liberals and Trudeau; 26 per cent would vote for Mulcair and the NDP. Meanwhile, Duceppe and the Bloc would get five per cent of the vote and three per cent would vote for May and the Greens.
- Last week: Harper was at 32 per cent, Trudeau at 33 per cent, Mulcair was at 27 per cent, Duceppe and May both at four per cent.
- Margin of error: The poll is accurate to within plus or minus 2.9 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
- Ekos: Conservatives remain in a narrow lead, according to polling conducted from Oct. 3 to 5. If a federal election were held tomorrow, 35.1 per cent of respondents would vote for the Conservatives, while 30.9 per cent would choose the Liberals; 22.2 per cent of respondents would pick the NDP. Meanwhile, 6.6 per cent would choose the Bloc and four per cent would pick the Green party.
- Last poll: In polling conducted Sept. 23 to 29, the Conservatives were at 33.4 per cent, the Liberals were at 26.7, the NDP were at 25.6 per cent, the Green party was at 7.8 per cent and the Bloc was at 5.3.
- Margin of error: The margin of error associated with the total sample is plus or minus 2.4 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
