Random thoughts on a slow day in Bomberland

-Pro football can be a cruel biz and if I’m Chris Cvetkovic right now, I’m a little worried. One of the truly good men in the league and a glue-guy that helps keep the locker room tight, Cvetkovic injured his knee in Sunday’s loss in Hamilton. Doesn’t sound like it’s major, but the work of rookie Adam Bestard as his replacement was solid. Cvetkovic is a specialist only, Bestard also plays O-line and that makes him a threat to steal the vet’s job injury or not.

-We see that former Bomber Matt Sheridan packed it in and retired from Calgary today. Not surprising given he’s been out of the game for two years and weighed in at 383 when he first reported to camp. That’s a lot of pounds, regardless of how big a dude is, and it’s basic physics — you put a giant anvil on a card table and, eventually, the legs give out and the thing collapses.

-Early returns are all positive about the new field in Vancouver where both the B.C. Lions and Vancouver Whitecaps will play while a retractable roof is put on B.C. Place, although some are complaining about a $30 hit for parking near the facility. Ouch. The Bombers aren’t there until October but we sure liked what we saw from the pictures. -The Bombers didn’t announce any cuts on Monday, but they could be coming at any moment in advance of Thursday’s final roster declaration. Both the Ticats and Alouettes dumped players today, although there weren’t any surprises.
