This didn’t take long….
The injury to Bomber QB Buck Pierce — a knee strain that will keep him out for at least this week’s game against Edmonton – means the club has airlifted in another pivot for a look-see.
The new guy is former Purdue starter Joey Elliott and he’ll be on the field Tuesday as the Bombers prepare for Saturday’s home date against the Eskimos. Elliott (6-2, 216) was not selected in April’s NFL Draft but signed a free-agent deal with the Philadelphia Eagles before being released.
Elliott was a captain as a senior for the Boilermakers last year and led the squad to an upset victory over Ohio State while throwing for more than 3,000 yards and 22 TDs.
The Bombers will start Steven Jyles with Alex Brink moving up to No. 2 on the depth chart.
