Charlie Ross will complete his trilogy of trilogies with a one-man show about Batman.

The Victoria performer, who has made a living criss-crossing the world performing his One Man Star Wars Trilogy and One Man Lord of the Rings, has been quietly assembling a solo show based on the three latest Caped Crusader movies.

The best news is that he will perform the entire piece for the first time in Winnipeg. He’s not charging for the performance, but where and when he’s staging is still up in the air. Ross has written and rehearsed — with director TJ Dawe — the part of the show dealing with the Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight (2008), and is currently working on The Dark Knight Rises (2012).

“It’s taken a decade to settle on Batman,” he says. “I’ve been looking for a long time, since 2004 when I finished Lord of the Rings.”

He would have completed it sooner, but the project went off the rails in 2012 when a gunman claiming to be the Joker opened fire during an opening-night screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Colorado, killing 12 people.

“I had a really hard time letting that go,” says Ross. “Batman connects to the inner eight-year-old in me and that shooting was a terrible thing. It’s not a nice way to remember a good series of films. With my show I hope to reclaim it as a eight-year-old kid and love it for what it is.”

Can Batman outdo the box-office success Star Wars and Lord of the Rings?

“I don’t think so,” he says “But I’ve been nothing but surprised by what’s happened with Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. If anything, I am sure it will be a surprise.”
