Voter turnout for advance polls almost doubles

If the advance polls are any indication, voter turnout in tomorrow’s provincial election will be higher than in 2007.

About 78,600 Manitobans cast their ballots during the eight days of advance voting for the 2011 election. This compares to 42,775 votes cast over seven days of advance voting in the 2007 election.

Advance voting ended on Saturday.

Voting places will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow, an hour longer than in 2007. With this additional hour of voting, more Manitobans will have an opportunity to vote on their way to work or school, Elections Manitoba said in a news release.
