YORKTON, Sask. — Marie-France Larouche of St-Romuald, Que., remained undefeated with an 8-6 decision over Edmonton’s Cathy King in women’s action Thursday at the $150,000 Canada Cup of Curling.
Larouche improved to 3-0 after six draws. Amber Holland of Kronau, Sask., lost 9-8 to Shannon Kleibrink of Calgary and sits at 2-1. Calgary’s Cheryl Bernard beat defending Cup champion Stefanie Lawton of Saskatoon 8-5 to move to 1-2, tied with King. Lawton remains winless at 0-3.
Regina’s Michelle Englot scored a 7-5 win against Mary-Anne Arsenault of Halifax. Four teams have 2-1 marks — Arsenault, Holland, Kleibrink and Kelly Scott of Kelowna — while Sherry Middaugh of Coldwater, Ont., is 0-3.
On the men’s side, Winnipeg’s Mike McEwen (2-2) beat Brad Gushue (1-3) of St. John’s, N.L., 8-5. Edmonton’s Kevin Martin sports a 3-0 record, ahead of Jeff Stoughton of Winnipeg (2-0). Toronto’s Wayne Middaugh and Kevin Koe of Edmonton are next at 2-1. Randy Ferbey of Edmonton is at 1-1, followed by Edmonton’s Ted Appelman and Winnipeg’s Kerry Burtnyk at 1-2. Russ Howard of Moncton, N.B., is at 0-3.
