CURLING fans will get a chance tonight to meet Jeff Stoughton and his 2011 Brier winning foursome, while at the same time helping the Canadian men’s curling champions raise money for the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba Inc.
The Stoughton team, including third Jon Mead, second Reid Carruthers and lead Steve Gould, will be at the Charleswood Curling Club, 4000 Grant Ave., beginning at 7:30 p.m. tonight for their send-off party as they prepare to represent Canada in Regina at the Ford World Men’s Curling Championship, April 2-10 .
Curling teams generally use their send-off parties prior to major events as fundraisers for the team, but the Stoughton team has disavowed that practice this year.
The team used their send-off prior to the Brier to raise money for junior curling and are using tonight’s event to raise money for the Children’s Hospital Foundation. There will be no admission charge, but donations are gratefully accepted.
