Hey there, time traveller!

Defending champion Mike McEwen leads a group of three teams with undefeated records through two days of action at the GP Car & Home World Cup curling bonspiel in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
McEwen, Jeff Stoughton and Kevin Martin are all 3-0 through five draws at the first men’s Capital One Grand Slam event of the season. Each of the skips leads one of the three round-robin pools.
McEwen, from Winnipeg, got his third win at the expense of 2006 Olympic gold medallist Brad Gushue of St. John’s. McEwen scored four in the eighth to pull out a 7-4 win against his previously unbeaten opponent.
“Got outplayed most of game, but hung in there & beauty 8th end 1 down coming home with #greasywin,” the McEwen team wrote on its Twitter page after the game.
McEwen beat Edmonton’s Kevin Koe 6-4 earlier Thursday, while Gushue won his first game of the day 5-4 against Saskatoon’s Steve Laycock. Gushue is alone in second in the six-team pool at 2-1.
Stoughton, also from Winnipeg, won another battle of unbeaten teams when he defeated Glenn Howard of Coldwater, Ont., 8-5 in Thursday’s late draw. A steal of two in the fifth propelled the defending Canadian and world champion to victory.
Howard won the World Cup three times between 2006 and ’08. He beat Toronto’s John Epping 7-3 on Thursday, while Stoughton needed an extra end to upend Toronto’s Mark Kean 5-4.
Howard is tied with Epping and Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie for second at 2-1.
Martin is alone at the top of the Pool A standings at 3-0 following a 7-3 win over Randy Ferbey in a battle of Edmonton curling titans in the afternoon and a 6-2 victory over Norway’s Thomas Ulsrud at night. Ferbey, a 7-6 winner over Greg Balsdon of Kingston, Ont., in the late draw, is a game behind Martin with a 2-1 record.
The round robin continues through Friday with the eight-team playoff beginning on Saturday. The final is set for Sunday.
