POWER RANKINGS

One man’s totally subjective rankings after 15 weeks of play (last week’s rank in parentheses):

1. (1) MONTREAL ALOUETTES (11-4): Not a classic win over Bombers, but punched back effectively and clinched first in the East.

2. (2) CALGARY STAMPEDERS (11-4): Slow start, big finish in Regina on Sunday pushes them closer to hosting the West Final.

3. (3) SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS (9-6): More special-teams woes and now some injury concerns as well.

4. (4) HAMILTON TIGER-CATS (8-7): These guys go as Kevin Glenn goes.

5. (5) TORONTO ARGONAUTS (7-8):Offence comes to life.

6. (8) EDMONTON ESKIMOS (5-10): Ricky Ray does it with his feet? No, really.

7. (6) B.C. LIONS (5-10): Give up over 300 yards rushing, deserve to lose.

8. (8) WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS (4-11): Same old, same old — close, but can’t finish.

TD passes for Steven Jyles this season — two more than the total thrown by Bomber quarterbacks in all of 2009.

SAY WHAT?

“That one guy was a lot faster than me. If he’d played quarterback he’d have had 200 yards (rushing),” — Eskimos QB Ricky Ray, who rushed for 135 yards in the win over B.C., on the streaker who ran the length of the field and eluded security while covering himself with one hand.

The Argos have managed to score more than 17 points only once in their last eight games… Just a thought: if a team takes a 10-yard penalty inside the 10, why isn’t the ball automatically placed on the one-yard line? Don’t like this half-the-distance-to-the-goal stuff… Oops: it seems the Lions made a clerical error when submitting their active roster to the officals prior to last week’s game, forcing them to recall Sean Whyte from the locker-room and then have Paul McCallum surrender his shoulder pads to his replacement. “Sean played well,” said McCallum afterward. “But it was handled so unprofessionally on our end; there was so much confusion. It p ed me off.”… An injury to Luca Congi means punter Eddie Johnson will handle the placekicking chores as well. Said Johnson to The Regina Leader-Post: “I don’t like doing it because it messes up my punting. I can do it. So I’m not really stressing on it.”… Love that ex-Lion Cameron Wake, who still gives a lot of love to the CFL for giving him an opportunity, is tearing it up for the Miami Dolphins. Wake had six hits on Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, three sacks, eight pressures and forced a holding penalty. He has six sacks in five games with the Fish.
