OFFENCE

We’ll go with SB Terrence Edwards who caught a pair of touchdown passes to lead a Winnipeg receiving corps that took a lot of bad press in the last week after veteran Derick Armstrong’s mutinous actions and eventual release. Edwards handled the whole affair with an air of leadership and after talking the talk all week, went out and backed it up. Edwards had three catches for 40 yards.

DEFENCE

LB Siddeeq Shabazz was outstanding making five tackles and then stealing a Henry Burris pass in the fourth quarter and going all the way to the house for six.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Punter Mike Renaud pulled himself off the mat after a weak effort in his Blue Bombers debut to do a solid job in the wind at Canad Inns Stadium. Renaud finished with eight punts for an average of 43.9 and a long of 58.

CRITICAL NUMBERS:

2

The Bombers stole a pair of Henry Burris passes with one going to Ike Charlton and the other to Shabazz. Charlton’s led to a Blue Bombers touchdown and the Shabazz interception put an end to any hopes of a Stamps comeback.

1-1

The Bombers were in the game to the end in Week 1 at Edmonton but suffered a tough loss and then were able to romp at home against the Stamps. That leaves them at 1-1 and heading off to Hamilton for a road game against the lowly Ticats.

MILT-O-METER:

The Bombers faithful paid off their favourite son Milt Stegall with a raucous tribute at halftime as the newest member of the club’s Hall of Fame was honoured. Stegall owned the hearts of Winnipeg fans for the previous 14 seasons as he became the CFL’s all-time receiving yards leader at 15,153 receiving yards. Stegall owns a number of CFL records, 147 career touchdowns, 144 career receiving touchdowns and 23 touchdowns in a season are league bests. The club announced a sellout crowd of 29,533.
