Hey there, time traveller!
This article was published 26/09/2010 (5525 days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers want Jonathan Hefney back and they want him back long-term.
But getting the East Division rookie of the year back in Bomber colours quickly might not be a slam dunk. Released from the Detroit Lions practice roster last week, Hefney’s rights automatically revert to the Bombers as he signed down south as a player entering the option year of his current CFL contract.
The club, according to a CFL source, is asking Hefney to sign a new deal with an offer to raise his option-year base salary but add another year. Hefney, however, is said to be wanting to play out his current contract in order to chase another NFL tryout or become a CFL free agent this winter.
OUCH REPORT: While the Bombers negotiate with Hefney and his camp, they are also dealing with the loss of cornerback LaVar Glover for a spell. Head coach Paul LaPolice said the veteran corner will likely be out a couple of weeks with a pulled groin muscle.
Wide receiver Greg Carr suffered a shin bruise and will be evaluated further this week. As well, receiver Terence Jeffers-Harris will return to full practice in the coming days and his availability for Saturday’s critical contest against the B.C. Lions will be determined then.
GREAT DEBUT, BUT… Here’s LaPolice on the work of Carr, who had four catches for 185 yards and two TDs before pulling up lame early in the third quarter:
“Good start. A lot of mistakes, too. We throw a guy in who hasn’t played in a game and he had a couple of mental errors… but he ran with the ball very well. Changing guys around on a short week was hard, moving Adarius (Bowman) inside. He hasn’t really played a lot in there.
BOUNCE BACK… AGAIN? Some leftover thoughts from Bomber players trying to recover from another heartbreaking defeat:
Terrence Edwards: “There’s no words to describe how we feel right now. No words. Everybody saw it. We don’t have to keep talking about it. Everybody who saw that game saw what happened.
“We’ve got to keep fighting. That’s the only thing we can do. We definitely need the two wins against B.C. to even stay in contention for the crossover. This would have been nice, but it’s done and over with now. We’ve got to flush it and get ready to play B.C.”
Ian Logan: “It’s just so painful. We’re playing with heart, we’re fighting on every down and it’s like it’s being taken away from us. We can’t buy a break. It almost feels like we’re cursed because we’re not getting the breaks right now. To play with the best team in the league like that… we should have won that game. It shows the level of talent here, it’s like it’s just not in the cards right now.”
