THERE’S something about David McKoy’s game that Winnipeg Blue Bombers head coach Paul LaPolice obviously likes.

The Bombers signed McKoy, whom the club added to their practice roster briefly last season, on Tuesday in an effort to beef up their Canadian content and receiving corps.

McKoy and LaPolice actually go back to their days in Saskatchewan, when the 27-year-old Guelph product was a second-round draft pick of the Roughriders in the 2007 Canadian Draft. McKoy (6-2, 195) appeared in nine games as a rookie before injuring his knee. He spent 2008 and 2009 on the injured list, but did return to play in the Riders’ playoff games in ’09.

The Bombers worked out McCoy at Duane Forde’s Canadian draft prospect camp earlier this month before deciding to re-sign a player who finished second in the CIS with 48 receptions for 858 yards and eight TDs as a senior. Those numbers earned him a spot on the CIS and OUA First All-Star Teams.

“Having spent time with him in Saskatchewan I know the outstanding work ethic and professionalism David brings. He will be an excellent addition to our locker-room,” said LaPolice in a press release.

In other receiver news, the Bombers will work out Damian Sherman today in the U.S. Sherman (6-foot-4, 218) was a star at Southern Illinois and has been on the club’s radar screen since last season.

Als get new boss

MONTREAL — Ray Lalonde is the new president of the Montreal Alouettes.

The native of Trois-Rivieres, Que., has an extensive background in sports management and replaces Larry Smith, who left the team in November to enter politics.

Lalonde was formerly vice-president of marketing for the Montreal Canadiens.

Lalonde oversaw numerous projects with the Habs, including their 100th anniversary celebration last year.

He takes over a team that has won the last two Grey Cups.
