Offence – With Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Buck Pierce out of the game in the early fourth quarter with a suspected leg injury, it was up to back-up Alex Brink to make something happen. With 3:56 left in the game, Brink fired a 22-yard touchdown strike to slotback Terrence Edwards to bring the Bombers back from behind into a 25-20 lead and a shot to win the game.
Defence – There was huge pressure from the front seven but in the defensive secondary, halfback Jonathan Hefney played like a man possessed racking up nine tackles and nearly broke up one of the game’s more exciting plays. In the late second quarter, B.C. slotback Geroy Simon made a spectacular one-handed 33-yard grab but didn’t get to take it home thanks to Hefney.
Special teams – Winnipeg Blue Bombers place kicker Justin Palardy was a perfect 4-4 in field goals booting field goals of 41, 20, 38 and 24 yards
FAN-O-METER
Five minutes before game time, the Bombers and Lions players and coaching staffs came together in the centre of the field and stood over the Winnipeg logo on the field to watch a short video tribute to the late Richard Harris, the Bombers assistant head coach and defensive line coach who died of a heart attack on Tuesday, and they observed a moment of silence together. Though the cheers from the sellout crowd of 29,533 were loud, it was a deafening roar when the defence took the field for the first time.
