THREE PHASES

OFFENCE

THE Bombers managed just 230 yards net offence, much of it coming in garbage time. Brian Brohm’s pass-completion numbers are solid — 21 of 26 — but they totalled only 184 yards. Winnipeg did try to pound the ball, rushing 21 times, but only for 60 yards. The longest plays from scrimmage were 18-yard completions to Darvin Adams and Cam Marshall, and there were minimal attempts to attack downfield. Really, though, all of this is simply predictable based on what we’ve seen recently from this crew.

DEFENCE

STARTED well and finished with four quarterback sacks with some decent pressure on Brett Smith. But the Riders held a considerable edge in time of possession — 37:45 to 22:15 — and this crew just looked tuckered out by the final gun. They had discipline issues and couldn’t contain Riders bull Jerome Messam as the game progressed.

SPECIAL TEAMS

FOLLOWED up last week’s decent effort against Calgary by soiling the sheets — again. Nic Demski’s punt-return score was a momentum changer. One step forward, two back.

THE HERO

RIDERS head coach Bob Dyce. He didn’t wave a magic wand, but this was a far more relaxed and inspired squad. He challenged his players and held them accountable and the results were instant.
