IT was loud enough to peel some of the fresh paint coating the MTS Centre walls. But Jets head coach Claude Noel hopes a Tuesday morning rant -- it featured enough 'blue' language to make a biker blush -- has an impact on his team.

Hey there, time traveller!

IT was loud enough to peel some of the fresh paint coating the MTS Centre walls. But Jets head coach Claude Noel hopes a Tuesday morning rant — it featured enough ‘blue’ language to make a biker blush — has an impact on his team.

“This is exactly what happens after a day off,” Noel said. “You have a day off and your mind is not engaged. That was my method of saying, ‘Hey, what the heck? Wake the heck up! I mean, this isn’t right!’ We were doing the same things in practice that led to the same stuff in the game. Is that how we want to continue? Because it’s going to be the same come the next game. They understood.”

Interestingly, the scene unfolded with Noel’s sister watching.

“She had no influence on my behaviour at all,” Noel said with a laugh. “She knows I swore because it’s just the way it happens in the season — you start to swear a lot. I’m trying not to get influenced by Charlie Huddy, because he REALLY swears a lot. It’s not my fault.”

BACK TO THE WINDY CITY:

Thursday’s game in Chicago will be the first for Andrew Ladd and Dustin Byfuglien since they were hoisting the Stanley Cup in June of 2010.

“I’m looking forward to it,” said Ladd. “Obviously I have some great memories from there. Being able to go back for the first time and see the banner and a lot of people I knew really well is going to be fun for me.”

LOW BLOW:

Chicago defenceman Sean O’Donnell will celebrate his 40th birthday on Thursday. Patrick Sharp told CSNChicago.com the players plan on getting their veteran teammate something.

“We were joking earlier we’re going to get a contact list of everyone’s phone numbers,” said Sharp, “except instead of the guys in the room it’ll be our parents’ numbers so he has lots of people to hang out with after the games.”

QUOTABLE:

“You can tell how excited they are, be it at the draft or going into the (opening) game. Even getting beat at home, the support is there. These guys live and breathe it every day. When we played that preseason game last year, there was definitely appetite (for) getting a team. And it transpired in a positive way.”
