FARGO, N.D. – Not even a record flood can stop love in Fargo, North Dakota.
Nathan and Brittany Aakre had First Assembly of God Church lined up nine months ago for their wedding Saturday, with 530 people on the invitation list.
Then the Red River rose toward a record flood crest and the church was turned into a sandbag-making centre.
So Nathan, 25, and Brittany, 22, worked the phones and found a local hotel that could accommodate them.
The bride’s father, a minister who had surgery last week, married them as planned Saturday morning in the hotel’s conference room. Seventy guests made it for the ceremony.
The newlyweds didn’t stick around to fill sandbags. They were heading for their honeymoon in Michigan and Chicago.
