Winnipeg Humane Society has issued an urgent call for donations of animal kennels of all sizes.

Dogs and cats evacuated from the flood zone around Fargo, N.D. require proper pet carriers, according to U.S. veterinarian Dr. Deidre Qual. The carriers are most urgently needed at an evacuation centre in Valley City, N.D.

The animals are currently living out of “cardboard boxes that are soggy and falling apart,” explained Humane Society official Aileen White.

“If we could collect 50 (carriers) by tomorrow noon, we could start sending them to her immediately. The large size is most needed.”

White said they may need as many as 300 carriers in total.

If donating after-hours, White suggested donors leave their kennels just outside the humane society’s garage doors at 45 Hurst Way, off Waverley Street.
