The Headliner posed four questions to all the candidates running for election in Portage-Lisgar. Here are the answers of Christian Heritage Party candidate Jerome Dondo.

Q: What are the two biggest issues you feel are of most concern to riding residents and how will you address them?

A: The two largest issues that are coming up with the people that I speak to are health care and taxes. People are concerned that the health services are not available as they should be, and the taxes are too high. The Christian Heritage Party of Canada would open up the Canada Health Act for private investment while retaining the single payer system we currently have which would reduce wait times and ensure quality services. We would also reduce taxes by stopping deficit spending and eliminating the national debt.

Q: How do you feel your party can support the lives of riding residents, specifically farm families and seniors?

A: The Christian Heritage Party of Canada would support the family farm by ensuring that property ownership stays with Canadians. For farmers, families and seniors, reducing taxes and investing in government services would be a priority. By eliminating the national debt, $70 million per day would be saved in interest alone. This savings can then be used to reduce taxes or invest in government services such as the health fields.

Q: How would you address the issue of economic development for riding residents?

A: One way of addressing economic development for riding residents is by using the Bank of Canada to offer interest-free loans to municipalities and provincial governments to invest in infrastructure as a means of improving roads and bridges and creating jobs for individuals.

Q: What personal qualities do you bring to the role of Member of Parliament for Portage-Lisgar?

A: If elected as a member of parliament, my experience as a Certified General Accountant would help in analyzing financial information and making changes to the Income Tax Act, my experience with First Nations would help in influencing policies affecting First Nation communities and their members as well as ensuring AANDC (Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada) is acting fairly with those communities. I would also ensure that individuals contacting my office would be responded to quickly to ensure that they know that their concerns are being heard.
