Hey there, time traveller!

Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: My dad is an idiot, but my boyfriend is too! We were having dinner at my parents’ place and the two got into an argument. It ended up with my dad doing that fake-out lunge at my boyfriend — and my boyfriend ended up knocking my dad on his ass!

Now my mom’s super mad at us, and my dad said he’d better not see my boyfriend ever again!

I love my boyfriend, though. He’s so good to me, and is very protective. We are in love! What do I do? — Uneasy Street, West End

Dear Uneasy: Unfortunately, it looks like you picked a guy just like your dad. These types fight physically, and in your own words, they are both “idiots.”

You’re stuck with your dad in this life, but why would you willingly choose a hothead to possibly be your husband and father to your children?

Think about it this way: what is it you actually like about the way these men behave? If you truly hated the arguing and physical fighting, you’d have chosen a strong guy who is also a gentleman.

Now, some would argue fist-fighting or wrestling is exciting, but you say you want a protector type. Then find the best kind — a man who protects against attack from outside his family, but doesn’t also lay his fists on you, his children or the grandparents.

This boyfriend has actually flattened your father already! That should tell you something.

Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: My wife might be cheating on me. Well, I think she is, and I might as well face it! I know, because I finally grabbed her phone when she was in the bathtub and looked at it.

I feel like a jerk on some level, but at the same time… I was right! She’s been sending and receiving “nudes” with a guy she works with.

I’m so sick to my stomach, I can’t believe it. I guess it’s over now, and I need to do something about it.

We had a big fight the night after I found her disgusting photos, but it was about something else.

I didn’t have the guts to actually tell her I saw the nude shots of her and that jerk. I just flipped out about something small, and have been stand-offish ever since.

We work opposite shifts, so at least it’s not too unbearable to be at home. Where do I even start the conversation? I can’t find the words. —Deflated and Betrayed, West Kildonan

Dear Betrayed: Before you have the “Big Talk,” think about the different scenarios possibly ahead. Try to figure out what you want out of it.

Will you and your wife be able to talk things out together, or will you need counselling?

Or have things been bad for a long time (maybe the sex has become rare or nonexistent) and she really wants out?

You saw the nude photo exchange on her phone, so that’s where you start the conversation. Then you ask: how did we get to this place? Then talk about when the marriage was good, and work through stages of the marriage up to this sad one.

Things you also need to know ASAP: has your wife met with this guy yet? Is this online playing around or have they gotten into a personal relationship and have been seeing each other? Do you know this guy from your circles of friends, acquaintances or co-workers?

Now here’s the big question for you: can you trust your wife’s answers? That’s a large part of the problem ahead, so try to keep your temper under control.

You could do with a knowledgeable referee. Many local relationship counsellors will talk to you by telephone or via an online meeting app like Zoom — together or apart — in these pandemic times.

Despite complaints from thousands of dissatisfied users, Winnipeg hasn't hit the brakes on the rollout of its new primary transit network. And it appears that ignoring the public response cost Winnipeg Transit millions of dollars in lost revenue and ridership.

The good, bad and record setting performance in Bombers loss to Elks

Joshua Frey-Sam 7 minute read Yesterday at 6:50 PM CDT

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ 22-19 defeat at the hands of the Edmonton Elks at Commonwealth Stadium in Alberta on Friday was fitting for all the wrong reasons.

The Bombers looked reinvigorated as they jumped out to a 16-point lead in the first half. Then some bad habits reared their ugly head, as the Elks roared back with 19 straight points before kicker Vincent Blanchard walked it off with a 40-yard field goal.

A night that began with so much promise left many fans to wonder what the ceiling actually is for this team in 2026.

On offence, Zach Collaros completed 19 of 30 passes for 219 yards, one touchdown and an interception; Brady Oliveira amassed 118 yards on 16 carries and added a pair of catches for 11 yards; and Nic Demski secured five grabs for 80 yards.

Bombers offence stalls in 22-19 loss to Elks

Joshua Frey-Sam 7 minute read Updated: Yesterday at 8:19 AM CDT

It was a microcosm of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ season to this point: a first half that burned bright only to be doused in cold water.

The Bombers began the first leg of their mid-season gauntlet with a 22-19 loss to the Edmonton Elks at Commonwealth Stadium in the Alberta capital on Friday night.

Elks quarterback Cody Fajardo orchestrated an eight-play, 54-yard drive that set up a 40-yard game-winning field goal by Vincent Blanchard that snuck inside the left upright with zeros on the clock.

The drive, which was plagued by poor tackling by the Bombers defence, came after Bombers kicker Sergio Castillo tied the game at 19-19 on a 53-yard boot with 1:41 remaining in the contest.

Wooed by wood, Cedarella founder takes pride in handcrafted designs

David Sanderson 7 minute read Yesterday at 6:00 AM CDT

Marina Bulan is the founder of Cedarella, a two-year-old venture that turns out eye-catching wood products such as jewelry, kitchen decor, children’s toys and, most recently, metre-high outdoor planters that double as home street-number indicators.

Ahead of immigrating to Winnipeg a decade ago from their native Russia, Bulan and her partner thought it would be prudent to conduct some research on their soon-to-be new home, a city they knew next to nothing about.

Imagine their surprise as they were viewing the 2007 surrealist film My Winnipeg, which comically blends historical facts about our burg with what Winnipeg-born writer/director Guy Maddin has termed “mystical hypothesizing.”

(For instance, there is no proof that, as reported in the award-winning flick, Winnipeg is the sleepwalking capital of the world, and that residents keep keys to their former abodes on their person in the event they turn up there during a bout of somnambulism.)

Unresolved issues leave little space for you

Maureen Scurfield 4 minute read Yesterday at 2:00 AM CDT

DEAR MISS LONELYHEARTS: My boyfriend — who is newly divorced — has two great children from his marriage. Although he and I have been together since Christmas, it’s obvious he loves his kids much more than he loves me! For instance, he lavishes affection on the kids when they’re over and completely leaves me out. I’m just the cook and dish-washer for the night.

When I brought this up recently, he said, “My girlfriends don’t last, because if I’m openly affectionate with them, the kids tell their mother we’re making out in front of them! They want all my affection and attention when I’m with them.” Then he added, “Stick around, and the kids will probably loosen up.”

Stick around? The explanation and his “advice” totally turned me off. What do you think?
