WINNIPEG – Troy Westwood made his debut at Bomber practice this afternoon.

Westwood made nine punts with a long of 54 yards, and his worst was a 26-yarder.

For the most part, Westwood looked solid. His kicks had excellent hang time, and most of them were in the mid-40 range.

Westwood wore #71 on his practice jersey; that number was previously worn by hall-of-famer Joe Poplawski and is not currently in use by the club.

Westwood will wear #74 starting Wednesday and going forward.  No. 7 was his last number with the Bombers, but QB Ricky Santos is currently using it.

Bomber head coach Mike Kelly announced Monday the team had added the 16-year veteran to their practice roster and he could punt for the team as early as this Saturday when the Montreal Alouettes pay a visit.

Westwood, the Bombers’ all-time leading scorer, had said he has been kicking fairly regularly and played soccer all summer. But he hasn’t kicked in game conditions since the pre-season of 2008, before he was released by then-head coach Doug Berry.
