WINNIPEG – Montreal Alouettes downed the Winnipeg Blue Bombers  44 – 40 at the Canad Inns Stadium tonight.

The Bombers were up 33-31 after three quarters of play.

Montreal got on the board on the first drive of the game, when kicker Damon Duval booted a 14-yard field goal four minutes into the contest. The visitors added to their lead six minutes later when quarterback Anthony Calvillo found Jamel Richardson for a 20-yard touchdown.

After Montreal conceded a safety, the Bombers found the endzone thanks to a 39-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Steven Jyles to Terrence Edwards with 1:22 left in the quarter.

Winnipeg took the lead early in the second quarter when rookie Greg Carr hauled in a short Jyles pass and ran 74-yards for a touchdown. It was Carr’s first CFL catch in his first professional game.

Kicker Justin Palardy nailed a 40-yard field goal to extend the Bombers lead to nine points.

The defending Grey Cup champs answered back when S.J. Green caught a 65-yard TD pass from Calvillo, but Carr struck again with a 71-yard TD grab with 1:35 left. Carr, who’s been stuck on the practice roster the last couple weeks, has had quite the CFL debut: Two majors and 163 yards receiving through one half.

After the visitors opened the scoring in the second half on a 19-yard TD reception from Brian Bratton, Bombers WR Aaron Hargreaves got into the scoring act with an 11-yard TD reception of his own. For Hargreaves, it was his first career touchdown.

Once again, the Als marched the ball down the field and into the endzone on the next possession; a drive capped off by a seven-yard touchdown catch by Andrew Hawkins with just under five minutes to play in the third quarter.

Montreal suffered a big loss to its offence in the half when receiver Kerry Watkins left the game with an arm injury. He was a spectator on the sidelines with his left arm in a sling.

Winnipeg receiver Adarius Bowman is in the lineup, despite his recent troubles catching the football of late. Slotback Chris Davis, who became a new father earlier this week, arrived at the stadium late this afternoon and was not ready to play, meaning Bowman draws in.

According to the club, Bowman was scheduled to be a scratch tonight.

Other healthy omissions for the home side include RB Yvenson Bernard, OL Chris Greaves, and DT Moton Hopkins. Of those four, only Bernard has yet to see action in a game this season.
