WINNIPEG -Two more front-line Jets have appeared in Winnipeg.

Forwards Evander Kane and Blake Wheeler skated with several of their teammates for the first time this September this morning at the MTS IcePlex.

Wheeler, acquired by the Thrashers before last spring’s trade deadline, had 17 points in the final 23 games of the NHL regular season a year ago.

He was only in a white practice jersey but Kane,, the 20-year-old from Vancouver, confirmed his choice to wear No. 9 for the Jets. There was no number on his jersey, but the numeral was on the back of his helmet.

“In Winnipeg here, they really encouraged me to wear No. 9, and that was my first choice, so it was a pretty easy thing to do,” Kane said about wearing Bobby Hull’s old number.

Kane scored 19 goals and 43 points for the Atlanta Thrashers last season.

He said today he loved what he saw from 17 Wing Winnipeg earlier this week when the Jets new jerseys were unveiled.

“I saw it on TV and I was pleasantly surprised,” Kane said. “I thought the colours looked really good and personally I think they’re some of the sharpest uniforms in the league. I really like the colour scheme and and the fact it’s a pretty simple, straightforward jersey. It really makes it stand out.”

The young offensive player said he’s going to “embrace” the pressure of playing in a city where hockey is a priority.

“I like pressure,” Kane said. “I’m a fan of it. It makes you play better, it makes me play better. I like when the pressure’s on because you have to perform.

“My attitude is if that’s what has to happen then that’s what’s going to happen. I have no problem with pressure. You’re in a Canadian city now, the microscope is out there on everybody. I got a little taste of it with Team Canada events and playing (junior) in Vancouver.”
