Free Press football writer Ed Tait offers a primer on the Bombers’ seven rivals as CFL training camps opened on Sunday:
West Division
B.C. LIONS
WHERE: Abbotsford, B.C.
CAMP CONFIDENTIAL: Who emerges as the No. 1 running back — what with Stefan Logan now in Pittsburgh with the Steelers — is one of the key storylines to track during camp. Return man Ian Smart wants a shot, but personnel guru Roy Shivers has recruited a handful of others, including former Iowa star Damian Sims. The Lions will also be monitoring first-round draft choice Jamall Lee, now in the camp of the Carolina Panthers.
QB DEPTH CHART: 1. Buck Pierce; 2. Jarious Jackson; 3. Zac Champion; 4. Travis Lulay.
CALGARY STAMPEDERS
WHERE: McMahon Stadium, Calgary
CAMP CONFIDENTIAL: Three starters from the D-line are gonzo — Charleston Hughes (Philadelphia Eagles) while both Eddie Freeman and Howard Hodges were released. Who emerges to man the first line of defence alongside Canadian star Mike Labinjo will be critical for the champs.
QB DEPTH CHART: 1. Henry Burris; 2. Barrick Nealy; 3. Matt D’Orazio; 4. Drew Tate.
EDMONTON ESKIMOS
WHERE: Clarke Stadium, Edmonton.
CAMP CONFIDENTIAL: New coach, new regime with Richie Hall coming aboard and bringing Maurice Lloyd, Scott Gordon and Kitwana Jones along with him. The secondary looks to be green, especially with Anthony Malbrough currently a holdout. They’ll also hope to keep Jesse Lumsden healthy as he gives the Eskimos a ground attack that has been mediocre and inconsistent the last few years.
QB DEPTH CHART: 1. Ricky Ray; 2. Jason Maas; 3. Lester Ricard; 4. Jared Zabransky.
SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS
WHERE: Taylor Field, Regina.
CAMP CONFIDENTIAL: The big story is similar to here in Winnipeg — all eyes are on Darian Durant to see if he can make the leap from promising spot starter to consistent quarterback. Steven Jyles will also push, but Rider brass is also said to be high on third-stringer Dalton Bell, the former West Texas A & M star who has had stints with three NFL teams.

East Division
MONTREAL ALOUETTES
WHERE: Campus du Fort St-Jean, St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que.
CAMP CONFIDENTIAL: There won’t be a ton of changes with the Alouettes, but who backs up QB Anthony Calvillo — who turns 37 this summer — will be a big question, especially now that Marcus Brady has retired and taken a job as the receivers coach. They keep denying it, but Casey Printers is just a phone call away…
QB DEPTH CHART: 1. Anthony Calvillo; 2. Brad Banks; 3. Adrian McPherson; 4. Ricky Santos; 5. Chris Leak.
TORONTO ARGONAUTS
WHERE: University of Toronto at Mississauga.
CAMP CONFIDENTIAL: Big story in the Big Smoke centers around the new coaching staff, only three of which have CFL experience. Bart Andrus takes over after working with the Tennessee Titans and coaching in NFL Europa for years. They’ll also be trying to find a capable candidate to replace Dominique Dorsey (Washington Redskins), who was the spark plug of their special teams and offence.
QB DEPTH CHART: 1. Kerry Joseph; 2. Cody Pickett; 3. Steven Reaves; 4. Kinsman Lancaster.
HAMILTON TIGER-CATS
WHERE: Ronald V. Joyce Stadium, McMaster University, Hamilton.
CAMP CONFIDENTIAL: Quinton Porter has star written all over him, but can he be a consistent QB for the Ticats after they’ve been burned hyping Jason Maas and Casey Printers? If not, former Bomber Kevin Glenn will step in and he should feel comfy with Dan Goodspeed and Alex Gauthier at the two tackle spots along the O-line.
