BROOMFIELD, Colo. — Debbie McCormick’s squad slid and swept their way to a win in the finals of the U.S. Olympic curling trials to become the first American athletes to secure spots for the 2010 Vancouver Games.

McCormick beat Patti Lank 8-5 Saturday, sealing the win with a brilliant shot on the final rock, knocking two of Lank’s stones out of the way.

McCormick was also a member of the fifth-place team in 1998 at Nagano, and the ’02 squad that finished fourth in Salt Lake City.

The trials were also the national championship.
