BRUCE TO STEELTOWN?

If you’re waiting to see Arland Bruce III back in a Blue Bombers uniform, don’t hold your breath. The Argos were close to a deal Tuesday night with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for the mercurial Bruce after little luck with the Bombers, among others. First among the roadblocks is Bruce’s salary in the $190,000 range. That price tag would give most teams salary-cap issues at this point in the season. Also in the mix on this issue is Mike Kelly’s decision earlier this year to release receiver Derick Armstrong for his choice not to play in the club’s opener against the Edmonton Eskimos. Kelly took a stance with Armstrong and to now bring in another problem child would likely raise some eyebrows in the Bombers’ locker-room. Then again, if the guy can play, and Bruce certainly can, maybe the Bombers should welcome him with open arms, luggage and all.

WATCHING WILLIAMS:

With the improved play of rookie Dorian Smith, three sacks in last week’s loss to the Argos, veteran Tyrone Williams appears to once again be on the outs for this weekend’s game. Williams has been a force during his CFL career but hasn’t met much success since joining the Bombers this off-season. Williams missed Week 1 due to injury and the coaching staff didn’t like the way he played in Week 2 against the Calgary Stampeders. The native of Philadelphia has been a healthy scratch the last two games and a third is looming. Kelly says Williams is handling the demotion like a pro and has not been a distraction.
