* Romby Bryant likes to wear red and seems to have found his game since being traded by the Bombers to the Calgary Stampeders. Bryant had a terrible start to the season in Winnipeg but has caught fire since joining Calgary.

Bryant had career highs of nine catches and 211 receiving yards in a win for the Stamps last weekend and now has 42 catches and 624 yards on the season. When he left Winnipeg he had 20 catches and 232 yards in 11 games and in five games with Calgary has 22 catches for 392 yards.

* Edmonton Journal football writer Mario Annicchiarico says Als coach Marc Trestman is a lock for coach of the year and we don’t disagree.

"Marc Trestman is far and away the best head coach in this loop — there are no arguments that can be made to prove otherwise (yeah, even after an ugly loss to Winnipeg, unless you’re touting Mike Kelly as your guy)… . A surprise selection to take over the duties of the Montreal Alouettes in 2008, Trestman is the complete package: articulate, thought-provoking, sincere, and a tremendous communicator and leader. And at 13-3 on the season, a guaranteed winner of the Annis Stukus award presented each spring."

* The Als have lost some of their lustre of late, in particular on the defensive side of the ball.

Two weeks ago, Hamilton’s Kevin Glenn pitched for 505 yards and three TDs despite losing 41-38. Winnipeg’s Michael Bishop threw for 411 yards in a 42-24 win over the Alouettes. That’s 80 points against in two weeks.

* While the Bombers have won four of their last five and made a push for the playoffs, the Ticats have gone the other way and lost four of their last five.

On Tuesday, Hamilton GM Bob O’Billovich made some personnel changes. Running back Tyler Ebell and receiver Rodgeriqus Smith were signed while defensive back Tony Davis, defensive lineman Josh Gaines and defensive end Marquies Gunn were cut.

* The question of whether Alouettes quarterback Anthony Calvillo (calf) will play or not this weekend likely won’t be answered until game time.

Montreal returned to practice on Wednesday and Calvillo was on the field although the workout was a walk-through and not physically demanding.

* Riders coach Ken Miller to the Regina Leader-Post on the subject of his club going to overtime in its last two games.

"I’d much rather win by 50," said Miller.

No kidding.
