THE QB

No. 5 Kevin Glenn

Don’t look now, Blue Bomber fans, but the former Winnipeg quarterback has asserted himself as one of the premier pivots in the game. The numbers are pure quality: 141-of-218 for 1,890 yards in six starts; 11 touchdown passes against four interceptions; and a 101.3 quarterback efficiency rating. Given the fact Winnipeg has played Hamilton every other week, what really frustrates the Blue and Gold supporter is how quick Glenn is getting rid of the football. After sacking the Detroit native seven times in a Week 1 win, the Bombers have only touched Glenn twice in two consecutive losses. He runs hot and cold at times (even during the course of a quarter), but Glenn is one of the few Cats exempt from the microscope after a miserable start to the season.

Quick take: After going 15-of-30 for 197 yards with one TD and one interception in a miserable season opener in Winnipeg, Glenn has torched the Bombers defence for 707 yards (53-of-77) and six touchdowns (with just one interception). The Bombers need to slow his production to have a chance tonight.

OFFENSIVE WEAPONRY

No. 1 Arland Bruce III, WR: Two weeks ago, he caught 16 balls for 272 yards against Saskatchewan. Last week, the former Bomber had 197 yards on 11 grabs. There is some concern over his health. Regardless, he’ll have a lot of attention placed on him tonight.

No. 88 Dave Stala, SB: Touchdown celebrations aside, Stala is looking great as a secondary weapon for Glenn and the Hamilton offence. Bruce gets all the attention, but Stala is quietly putting together a solid season, catching 33 passes for 390 yards and two touchdowns.

DEFENSIVE STOPPERS

No. 28 Jamall Johnson, LB: With playmakers all over the box, take your pick from the Hamilton front seven. Johnson earns mention in this space for his league-leading 39 tackles coming into the weekend.

No. 2 Jason Shivers, DB: Never a good sign when a member of the secondary is among the league leaders in tackles, so take Shiver’s 29 tackles with a grain of salt. He’s struggled at times in coverage, but he usually draws the opposition’s best receiver on his assignment list.

THE SPECIALISTS

No. 8 Marcus Thigpen, KR: The special teams player of the month for July has cooled significantly, but he’s still a threat in all areas of the return game. He sits in second place in the combined yards category (934).

No. 4 Sandro DeAngelis, K: Since Ticats fans wanted to throw him over Niagara Falls a few weeks ago, the CFL veteran has started to find his consistency. DeAngelis has made six of his last seven field goal attempts.
