MONTREAL ALOUETTES (8-3)
at
WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS (3-8)
When: Tonight, 7 p.m. TV: TSN-HD Radio: CJOB.
Vegas line: Montreal by 5.5
Alouettes line: QB Anthony Calvillo returned from a chest injury last week and was 24-of-42 for 227 yards in a win against Edmonton. He has 17 TD passes and only four interceptions. DE John Bowman leads the league with four forced fumbles and is second with eight sacks. The Als beat the Bombers earlier this season.
Bombers line: Winnipeg has lost six of its last seven. The Bombers are a lowly 1-6 versus East Division opponents. SB Terrence Edwards is second in the league with 959 yards receiving. RB Fred Reid leads the CFL with 906 yards rushing. He averages 6.4 yards a carry.
Bottom line: Which Bombers team will show up for this one?
SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS (7-4)
at
HAMILTON TIGER-CATS (6-5)
When: Saturday, 5:30 p.m. TV: TSN.
Vegas line: Hamilton by 1
Roughriders line: SB Andy Fantuz had 10 catches for 255 yards receiving last week. QB Darian Durant threw for 500 yards against the Stamps and leads the league with 3,443 yards on the season. Amazingly, he has more picks (15) than touchdown passes (13). LB Barrin Simpson continues to be a force on defence (67 tackles).
Tiger-Cats line: Stormed back and erased a 12-point deficit to beat the B.C. Lions last week. QB Kevin Glenn has thrown for more than 3,000 yards. Hamilton has only scored 113 points in five home games. SB Arland Bruce III continues to lead all pass catchers with 985 yards.
Bottom line: The Riders are a dismal 1-4 on the road.
B.C. LIONS (3-8)
at
CALGARY STAMPEDERS (9-2)
When: Saturday, 8:30 p.m. TV: TSN.
Vegas line: Calgary by 10.5
Lions line: Five turnovers in the fourth quarter against Hamilton last week. Don’t let the Leos get past midfield: K Paul McCallum is hitting FGs at 93 per cent. QB Casey Printers completes passes at a 54 per cent clip. The Lions O-line has allowed 36 sacks.
Stampeders line: Despite losing in overtime to Saskatchewan last week, Calgary remains the class of the CFL. QB Henry Burris has 24 TD passes. The Stamps are unbeaten at home (5-0) and have only given up 76 points at home.
Bottom line: Given the way the Stamps play defence, this one could be over at the half.
EDMONTON ESKIMOS (2-9)
at
TORONTO ARGONAUTS (6-5)
When: Sunday, 11 a.m. TV: TSN
Vegas line: Toronto by 3
Eskimos line: The game is being played in Moncton. WR Kelly Campbell is the biggest weapon on offence (756 yards receiving). He has only one touchdown, though. The Eskimos are winless on the road and have scored just 75 points in the five losses. More ominous numbers: The club is minus-22 in the turnover department.
Argonauts line: Snapped a three-game losing streak with a win over the Bombers Sunday. QB Cleo Lemon only had 14 completions for 90 yards — and they still won. RB Cory Boyd is still recovering from a concussion. WR/KR Chad Owens leads the CFL with 1,992 combined yards.
Bottom line: Couldn’t the league bring a better matchup to Atlantic Canada?
