CHICAGO -- It was a tough enough night for the Winnipeg Jets. They did not neet a parting gift for defenceman Adam Pardy with 6:22 left in a 4-1 trouncing by the Chicago Blackhawks.

CHICAGO — It was a tough enough night for the Winnipeg Jets. They did not neet a parting gift for defenceman Adam Pardy with 6:22 left in a 4-1 trouncing by the Chicago Blackhawks.

On dump-in to the Winnipeg zone, Pardy went chasing back with Chicago’s Brandon Bollig. Bollig launched into Pardy and sent him crashing into the glass, knocking the pane from its supports and onto the fans in the lowest rows at United Center.

But the hurt didn’t stop there.

A fan reached out an yanked off Pardy’s helmet. And then the baptism came.

“I was just going back for the puck there,” Pardy said. “Two big, solid boys coming together there I guess. And the glass came out. One of those situations where you don’t want to see anybody get hurt. Then I got a beer dumped all over my head. All over the side of my face and on the side of my jersey. I don’t know if you can smell it but the bench could defenitely smell a little booze there for the last six minutes.”

Pardy wasn’t sure what happened with his helmet.

“I guess somebody reached around there,” he said. “I don’t know. And I don’t know what happened to my stick there, either. That got lost in the crowd somewhere, too. A little insult to the injury, I guess. A tough night for all of us.

“It’s tough enough to get put through the glass, but then to get a beer thrown on my head, too, not a good thing. That was a first. They’re into it, that’s a good thing, I guess.”
