Be creative and fun on Valentine’s Day even last-minute

Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: I’m an idiot and a very busy guy. I don’t know what to get my wife for Valentine’s Day, and it’s the last minute again. Please give me some ideas to show her how much I love her (because I do) which I can do on Feb. 14 when I have a few hours of time. I’m expected to be romantic. — Clueless Husband, Westwood

Dear Clueless Husband: For some guys, romantic ideas don’t come easily. These guys dismiss everything as sappy and think they’re going to feel foolish. But romance is supposed to be sappy! A blush is quite appealing as it indicates deep feeling. Here are some ideas to pull you out of the mud this year. Let’s get started:

1. Romance photo shoot: Power up a digital camera or iPhone and have a giggle doing double selfies. You need props, so collect silly stuff from every room, particularly the bedroom. Beforehand, you make dinner — do everything. Go shopping in the afternoon or order in, and don’t forget a red rose and a card with mushy words on it. That’s right, real mushy.

2. Dance under the moon: Take her downtown and hit a parking garage with an open-air roof, crank up some sexy tunes, pull her gently out of the car in her winter coat, leave the car doors open and dance with her under the moon. Take a photo, of course. Those pictures are money in the bank when it comes to long-term romance.

3. Sugar, sugar: Tell her she’s “so sweet you have to take her out for dessert.” Visit a place like Dessert Sinsations or Baked Expectations. Pull sexy pre-written messages out of your pockets, and “feed” them to her over dessert and coffee. Neck in the car and take the quick route home.

4. Make up a nice dining table with a tablecloth and candles, and have dinner delivered or pick it up from a restaurant she loves. Wear a formal shirt and pants and a chef’s apron made out of a one-colour pillowcase. Serve her dinner as if she were dining in a Parisian café. Have romantic music playing in the background. Put her card on the table with a red rose. (Pink is for your mother, silly!)

5. Write her a love letter: Sit down and write her an old-fashioned letter about the first day you saw her and how you felt as you got to know her. Write about your first kiss, some sexy details and include all the things you love about her. Letter are so rare now she will keep it for a lifetime. Attach it to some flowers — florists stay open on Valentine’s Days for last-minute shoppers). Good luck, Romeo!
