Hey there, time traveller!

MIKE KELLY wasn’t willing to throw down his cards but by the way he was betting in practice it appears he’s ready to go all in with Michael Bishop.

Coach Kelly gave Bishop well over half of the snaps in practice on Tuesday and all indications point to the newest Blue Bombers quarterback to take the controls on Saturday when the team travels to Toronto for a rematch with the Argos.

“I probably won’t be ready to make an announcement on that until Thursday,” said Kelly, when asked about who would start at quarterback. “Let’s have another full day of practice and then see how things go. He looked good. It’s first-day stuff, but like I said (Monday) the learning curve isn’t real steep as far as terminology. There’s a few things he has to get straightened in his mind that might be a little backward from what he’s done in the past. He was getting it all lined up.”

Bishop, for his part, is ready to rock.

“That’s not my decision but if I get the nod to start or I get the nod to go in for the second or third quarter, I think I’ll be ready to go,” said Bishop, who was signed by the Bombers over the weekend and has been working and studying with the team since late Sunday.

Bishop, 33, comes with the reputation as a gunslinger and showed the big-league arm at practice Tuesday.

“The one thing I noticed was that you can’t tell when Michael is throwing into the wind. He’s got that big arm and he can get the ball from point A to point B rapidly,” said Kelly.

Bishop is a veteran of seven CFL seasons and has seen action in 110 games over that stretch and thrown for 51 touchdowns and 56 interceptions.

The skinny on Bishop is he can make the big play but he’s also prone to big mistakes.

“I’m getting to know the receivers and when they break off their routes,” said Bishop. “The big thing is for me to get to know the guys. We know each other from playing each other but this is an opportunity to get to know them in a different way. I’ve been watching the film and from what I’ve seen in practice, I’m impressed with the guys here. I know they can run, now it’s just a matter of finding them in a game.”
