Girl next door really blows

Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: My neighbour plays the trombone so loudly I can’t sleep. Last night, I went over to tell him to stop and it turned out to be a cute girl instead. She invited me in for coffee. I went in, had a great evening and went home happy. But, right before I left, at the door, she told me she wasn’t going to stop practising and I could buy earplugs at the drugstore. Then she winked and shut the door. What the hell did that mean? — Totally Confused (and Turned on), Fort Rouge

Dear Totally Confused: It means she’s not going to bend to your will, but she wants to be friendly. The wink was definitely flirting. So, buy the ear plugs, and if they don’t work, shove them under her door with a cute note asking her which brand she suggests to people who live beside her and her trombone, and think she’s cute. You don’t have to agree on everything to like somebody.

Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: I keep having dreams of an old boyfriend I was so in love with who got rid of me by being ultra-cosy friends with my best friend. As soon as I dropped him because of that, he started dating her. She eventually got pregnant and he married her. I always have dreams where he comes to me on bended knee, begging for forgiveness and saying he made a mistake. This is crazy because we live in the same town and he has a wife and kids and seems happy. I have a husband I am happy with, too. What is wrong with me?

— Obsessed by the Dream, Small Town

Dear Obsessed by the Dream: While your heart may have healed, your pride didn’t, and it bugs you to see him happy with her, of all people — your former best friend. You never got the satisfaction of an apology from him or your best friend, who were both equally as guilty. Do you suspect they had gotten together before you even broke up with him? It’s likely, but you’ll never know. These are things that make people deeply angry. You can be certain this happy pair is not 100 per cent sure of their mate’s ability to be true. Let that be a comfort to you.

Would you really want him back? No! Then why are you fussing? It would be smart to go see a counsellor outside your town (for privacy) and have a long chat about this pride issue causing you useless bad dreams.
