It’s a made-for-TV event: The highly-anticipated debut of rookie sensation Patrik Laine in a Winnipeg Jets uniform.

But… if Laine does indeed suit up on Friday night against the Edmonton Oilers, there will be no television audience to watch it. That’s because the pre-season game won’t be on TSN, which will be otherwise occupied a few kilometres away at Investors Group Field, broadcasting the Blue Bomber-Edmonton Eskimos CFL game from coast to coast.

The Jets haven’t confirmed that Laine will be in Friday’s lineup, but the odds are pretty good after sitting out the first two exhibition games with only four to go after Friday.

Patrik Laine's debut with the Winnipeg Jets will not be televised.

It’s worth noting captain Blake Wheeler and Mark Scheifele also haven’t played yet, so there’s a chance the trio will be on the ice Friday. Possibly on the same line… possibly playing against superstar Connor McDavid.

The Jets have already heard some concerns from fans aware of the issue. The club says the game will be available on the TSN GO app on their smartphones, tablets and computers using the in-house video feed accompanied by the TSN 1290 radio broadcast.

They are also exploring the possibility of carrying the video feed on the Winnipeg Jets website.
